Engagement Photos Are In!!

Just over a week ago, my fiancé and I had engagement photos taken at the university where we met, fell in love, and committed to marrying one another. Holly Sigafoos of Holly Sigafoos Photography did a wonderful job capturing our love and we’re thankful for her work. I’ll be sharing some of it with you in today’s post.

Just seeing these photos, you wouldn’t know it, but these sweet shots were taken in between the three of us (me, my fiancé, and our photographer) running for cover as the oscillating sprinklers neared us. We didn’t want to get wet, but we weren’t about to let a sprinkler dampen our spirits (pun 100% intended).

Turns out that the wall of our university’s main building is a photographer’s dream. I’m think I’m almost as smitten with these photos as I am with him.

After years of seeing “the way he looks at her” photos on Pinterest and other sharing sites, I finally have one of my own. I love the way he looks at me, and I love that Holly captured it.

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:2-6

Our photographer had an eye for simple backgrounds like these stone steps. I wasn’t sure about them during our photo shoot, but I absolutely love the simplicity of these photos. Looks like backdrops don’t have to be complicated all the time. I think there’s a lesson in that for love too.

Chambray, white lace, glass walls, and exquisite natural light…what more could you ask for?

My ring was originally his grandma’s and then his mother’s. It’s a platinum band with 4 little diamonds surrounding the center diamond. I’m honored to know that my wedding ring previously belonged to two women who continue to love so well and who played vital roles in shaping my soon-to-be husband into who he is.

This spot (outside our university chapel) is special to us because it’s where we first said, “I love you,” and where he proposed nine months later. It’s where we’ve done numerous Bible studies, sang many songs, and shared a few tears and countless kisses. We consider this little chapel “our spot,” and are so pleased that Holly captured so many lovely images of us there.

Sometimes we’re silly and sometimes we’re serious, and Holly did a fantastic job of capturing that. I think my favorite thing about all the photos is just how “us” they are.

Recently, I heard a sermon by Tim Keller on marriage and in it he said that marriage is a tandem journey towards glorification. He spoke of marriage being beautiful and sweet, but also bleak and difficult sometimes. He said that marriage is a commitment to stand by one another through thick and thin…to love one another even when you don’t like one another…to pray for your spouse even when they let you down. He said that a Christian marriage is a promise to stand with one another on the other side of eternity, to see them sinless and glorified, and to say, “I also knew you could be like this.”

Here’s to decades of dancing with my love on the high places on which the Lord sets our feet. Here’s to seasons of sitting with him in the valleys, forehead to forehead, praying through the hard times. Here’s to forgiving and being forgiven time and time again because Christ has forgiven us. Here’s to us one day seeing each other glorified and exchanging those words: “I always knew you could be like this.”

If you’re ever looking for a photographer, I couldn’t recommend Holly Sigafoos highly enough. She’s professional, kind, and fun to work with. She also (in my experience, at least) has a quick turnaround and gets you your beautiful images in no time at all. Plus, she’s a Christian! My fiancé and I are so looking forward to having her photograph our wedding day next May. But for now, I hope you enjoyed seeing some of our engagement photos!
